How to Play WALLS
How to Play
WALLS is a strategy game played on a 9×9 square board. Each player controls
one cube and wall placements to try and reach the opponent's end zone with their
player cube before the opponent reaches theirs.
Before the match begins, there is a placement stage. One player chooses
the location of the end zone within their closest 3 rows. The other player
then chooses the starting position for the player cube. The selected
positions are mirrored for the other player.
After the placement stage, the player who selected the player cube
locations moves first.
Moving Your Cube
On their turn if the player wants to move their player cube, they can move their cube 1 square in any of the 4 main directions: up, down,
left, or right.
You cannot move through a wall or move onto a square occupied by the other
player.
Moving is one of the main ways to make progress toward the opponent's end
zone. It also gives you additional power, so moving can help you prepare
for future wall placements.
Placing Walls
Instead of moving, you can also choose to place a wall to use up your turn.
Walls change the paths available on the board. You can use them to slow
your opponent, protect your route, or create a better path for your own
cube.
Wall length matters. Each additional square of wall length costs another
point of power. You can only place a wall when you have enough power to
pay for it.
Because power is limited, choosing when to place a wall is an important
part of the game.
Power
Each player has a power count that lasts and changes during the entire match.
Whenever you move your cube, you gain 1 power. Players also begin with
additional power based on the number of end zone squares selected during
the opening placement.
This means that power management matters throughout the match. Spending
too much power early can leave you with fewer options later.
Winning
The objective is simple: reach your opponent's end zone before they reach
yours.
The first player to reach the opponent's end zone wins the match.
Ranked matches also affect your rating. A win increase your rating and
help you move up the leaderboard, while a loss decreases your rating.
The Turn Timers
Every turn has a 15-second time limit showed on the players clock next to the board.
You need to decide quickly whether to move or place a wall while still
considering the position of both players, the available paths, and your
remaining power.
This can add time pressure as another factor in the strategy game of WALLS
About WALLS
What is WALLS
WALLS is a real-time competitive strategy game with very little luck
involved. In WALLS, 2 players compete on a 9 square by 9 square board
to reach the other player's end zone first to win and gain rating to
move them up the global leaderboard.
At the start of the game, one player chooses the end zone location
anywhere on their 3 closest rows, and then the other player chooses
the starting location for the player cube. Both locations are then
mirrored for the other player.
Each player has a 15 second timer for each turn, in which they must
either place a wall or move their player cube. The player cubes can
only move 1 square in any of the 4 directions on a single turn.
Both players have a power count for the whole length of the match.
Players get 1 power per turn where they move their player cube, but
they also start with 1 extra power per end zone square that was chosen
by the end zone chooser.
Strategy Over Speed
WALLS is designed around meaningful decisions rather than quick
reactions. Players must constantly analyze possible paths, predict
their opponent's intentions, and create strategies several moves
ahead.
Successful players learn how to balance offense and defense. Moving
too aggressively can leave you vulnerable, while playing too
defensively can give your opponent the opportunity to take control
of the board.
Competitive Play
Players can compete in ranked matches where results affect their
rating. Winning games increases your rating and allows you to climb
the leaderboard, while losses provide valuable experience that helps
improve your strategy.
The ranked system is designed to create competitive matches between
players of similar skill levels. Whether you are learning the basics
or attempting to become one of the strongest players, every match
provides a new challenge.
Designed For Competitive Players
WALLS is made for players who enjoy strategy games, tactical
challenges, and competitive experiences. The rules are easy to
understand, but the number of possible strategies creates depth that
continues to grow as players gain experience.
Every opponent brings a different play style. Some players may focus
on quick attacks, while others may build defensive structures and
wait for the perfect opportunity. Adapting to different strategies
is one of the most important skills in WALLS.
Built For Long-Term Competition
WALLS is designed as a competitive strategy experience that continues
to challenge players over time. Instead of repeating the same matches,
each game creates a different situation depending on the decisions
made by both players.
The game focuses on creativity, problem solving, and strategic
thinking. Players are encouraged to develop their own approaches,
experiment with different tactics, and improve through experience.
